Mosely Road Baths, 2020

Attilio Fiumarella, The Swimmers, 2014.

Moseley Road Baths is an extraordinary survivor. The only public baths pre 1914 to be both listed and in use for public swimming today, its opulent exterior and interior are almost completely intact. Situated in Balsall Heath, a vibrant, diverse and young part of Birmingham, the baths are a loved and valued community asset and have been the subject of intense local campaigning for over 10 years.Central to the baths is the dramatic and beautiful Gala Pool. Closed since 2003, this incredible space will re-open to the public in 2020, with a commission by Juneau Projects and members of the local community, a hand-painted animation which will be projected within the Gala pool and also shown outside the building. The ambition of the art work is to reflect the baths as a past, present and future community space.

“We feel this approach allows us to involve a wide range of people in the commission and offers a variety of levels of engagement to participants.”
